Dr. Sameer Murali is a bariatric medicine physician providing weight management services for approximately 120,000 obese adult Kaiser Permanente members in San Bernardino County. He is also the Kaiser Permanente physician lead for Bariatric Surgical Services for the Southern California region. Originally from Texas, Dr. Murali completed medical school and internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas, and later completed a masters in health services research at UCLA.
As a clinician, the majority of Dr. Murali’s clinical practice entails the medical management of patients before and after bariatric surgery, however he also provides individual and population-based weight-management services, with an emphasis on behavioral modification. Having struggled with his own weight throughout his life, Dr. Murali’s personal and professional weight loss journey has taken him on a deep exploration of human behavior. He enjoys sharing lessons from these experiences by speaking to professional and public audiences such as the California WIC Association and TEDx.
Dr. Murali has also produced and contributed to research in dietary assessment and bariatric surgical outcomes, and has served in an advisory capacity for the Center for Medical Technology Policy and the California Technology Assessment Forum.
